Snuggle Up To Organic Skincare

The clocks have gone back and for me, it’s a real sign that Autumn is out and Winter is well and truly upon us. As the seasons change so do our wardrobes but it’s also worth giving your natural skin care routine an overhaul as the cold weather sets in.

Winter weather can play havoc on our skin as we are faced with going from artificial central heating out into the cold. These extremes of temperature mean our skin needs some extra TLC within your organic skincare regime to avoid our skin looking dull, dry & flaky.

Here are my top tips for keeping your skin looking wonderful this Winter.

Slough off and Scrub Up…

Gentle exfoliation can really help restore radiance to dull skin. If your skin is looking decidedly lack-lustre, look out for natural exfoliators that contain Natural Fruit Acids (known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHAs) and other fruit extracts.

These natural raw materials work by sloughing off dead, dull, dry skin cells and speed up the renewal of healthy new skin cells. The inclusion of a gentle exfoliating grain will help this process but look for natural skin care products that contain gentle exfoliating agents like Jojoba Peeling Grains and avoid things like Walnut pieces, as these can drag and tear the skin on your face (although they are fine to use on your body).

Although exfoliation is useful at all times of the year, if you haven’t tried one before and have started to notice your skin looking dull and gloomy, Winter is the perfect time to Scrub Up on a grey day.

Feed Your Face (not just your stomach)….

My first passion is making and consuming natural skincare products but in a very close second place comes food - and in Winter that can only mean one thing for me – comforting, nourishing, aromatic & tasty winter warmers!

But it’s not just your appetite that needs feeding – it’s also your face. Look for products that nourish, repair and heal. Rich organic oils like Avocado, Argan& Macadamia feed your skin. Rosehip oil is a natural wrinkle warrior and helps restore skin’s elasticity. Pumpkin is rich in zinc and gives this oil a lifting effect and Mullein contains elastin.

It’s best to use really rich products like nourishing balms at night: whilst your skin is resting the rich nourishing balms can do their work to regenerate, nourish and feed your skin. You’ll wake up with skin that looks glowing, radiant and healthy. Night balms like Rest & Regenerate are the perfect midnight feast for faces: you’ll wake up with skin that looks nourished and well fed, ready to face that wintery weather!
