Five Ways to Spoil Your Mum this Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and you still have time to organise some lovely things to surprise and delight her on Sunday 10th March.

From natural skincare to scrummy chocolate, here are my top tips for making your Mum feel extra special next Sunday from dawn till dusk…

Breakfast…
Whether you live with your Mum or are faraway, you can still make breakfast special with some lovely tea. It’s the nation’s favourite drink and for good reason. It also shares some of the same benefits you can get from certain natural skincare ingredients – antioxidants! Tea, (like ingredients such as Vitamin A, C, E & Q10 found in natural and organic skincare products) is high in protective antioxidants that fight damaging free radicals.

Free radicals cause damage that can lead to our bodies and skin to age prematurely and also weaken our immune system.  Green and White Tea are thought to contain particularly high levels of antioxidants, especially the young leaves.  Look for quality leaf tea for the best benefits (and in my opinion, the best taste too).

I personally buy my tea online from Leaf.  It might seem a little more expensive, more so than supermarket tea bags, but actually you only need to use a small amount for a great taste, so it lasts ages and a little goes a long way – another similarity with high quality natural & organic skincare ranges!

Chocolate treats…
Much like tea and skincare, chocolate comes in all shapes and forms and most of us have a favourite.  If you’re looking for a tasty special gift with health and skincare benefits then dark chocolate is the answer. Like tea and Q10, Dark chocolate is also high in antioxidants.

There are two particular groups of antioxidants – polyphenols and flavonols, which are found in certain fruits, seeds, teas and oils, are popular due to their health benefits. Most Mum’s love a chocolate treat, my Mum is a fan of Rococo’s Dark Chocolate and Cardamom.

I’m going to be making a pudding using Willie’s Supreme Cacao and I love the fact that I can give my Mum a chocolate treat, knowing that it’s doing her heart and her health the world of good! Again, a little goes a long way with quality chocolate so will last her ages too!

Hands that do dishes….
Many Mum’s spend more time than they’d rather with their hands in the sink.  Washing Up is never much fun and it can cause do damage to hands, causing dryness and sometimes irritation.  I’m not suggesting you buy your mum a pair of marigolds this March but if you’re going to be spending the weekend with her, why not offer to do the dishes and how about a lovely natural and organic hand cream to keep hands soft & smooth.

Look for natural hand creams that contain skin softening Rice Bran Oil, healing Marigold (also known as Calendula), Marshmallow (not the sweet but the herb which is soothing and healing and great for treating sore, chapped or irritated skin).  A hand cream makes a great gift for Mum’s who like gardening too!

Favours for your Mum…
If your Mum is short of time and you’re strapped for cash, how about a box of favours.  Get a cute little gift box and fill it with little favours that she can cash in throughout the year.  It could be anything from promising to do the dishes, cook her dinner, spend time looking at old photos, giving her a home manicure or watching her favourite dvd together or running her a bath.  Which brings me nicely to my final tip...

Bathing Beauty…
Most Mums love to soak in the bath but don’t always have the time.  If that sounds like your Mum, how about buying her a gorgeous natural bath or body wash that she can enjoy? A matching rich and nourishing body butter containing organic Shea or Avocado butter can be used afterwards to keep her skin feeling silky soft and smooth and smelling gorgeous.

There are plenty of brands to choose, I’d suggest something natural that uses pure essential oils not synthetic fragrances.  My Mum is a fan of spicy smells like Ginger, Cardamom, Corriander and Lime so the Spice of Life range from my boutique natural skincare brand, is perfect. In fact, my Mum was the inspiration behind the Spice of Life range – and I blended pure essential oils that bring warming spicy notes together with zingy zesty citrus smelling oils.

If your Mum prefers something subtler to relax and unwind then look for essential oils like Lavender, Geranium, Neroli or Mandarin these essential oils are uplifting and also great for new Mums too. My Take It Easy range smells contains a blend of pure Neroli & Mandarin essential oils – wonderful for lifting the spirits and relaxing your lovely Mum’s soul.
